Thanks, Erica , for sharing these tips and picture! It's great to know that these cakes aren't as intimidating as they look - I'm always scared of them! I always think the Wilton pans look so cute, but I'm always afraid that once I'm done with it, it will look nothing like the original idea. Below are Erica's tips and a couple sites referencing the icing.

The links above are what I bought to do it. I just used vanilla icing and mixed the colors in. It was my first try. It was so easy. I also didn't use the tips they suggested. I just used what it generally needed to look like and didn't go as slow as I should have, but I didn't need it to look perfect. I still think it came out nice. Make sure you grease the pan or spray it with pam with flour. I did it both ways and it worked perfectly. I think it took me 30-45 minutes to ice it. some people said it took them 2 hours. That's insane. To get deep, rich colors, you have to use a lot of the dye. I would need another kit if i remade the cake. I also used the dye and kit to make his elmo cupcakes for his bday. I will be using this all the time.

she isn't kidding when she said it took her only 30 minutes to ice it. she started and finished icing the cake by the time we set up the table! and it looked amazing!!!
I hope you try one. I think you'd do a great job! Although, your dinosaur cake was awesome.
